Sometimes life doesn't fall apart all at once. It just slowly starts beeping, blinking, and refusing to cooperate.

Moday, I dropped my daughter's truck off at the body shop for repairs where she had hit a deer. In our rural area, it's a common occurrence. Tuesday was quieter but I noticed the dishwasher was acting odd. Wednesday I got a call from home. One of our grandsons has learned how to lock doors and the door locked we no longer have a key for it. Thankfully they were able to unlock it with a putty knife. On the way home I stopped by Lowes and picked up a knew door knob. I changed it before heading over to the church for a meeting at 5:30pm with a Deacon who has not been engaged and whose attendance has been steadily declining. As a pastor, it's the kind of meeting I don't like to call. Suffice it to say, the meeting was very awkward and in my estimation, it did not go well at all. I am at a loss for what to do moving forward. I left the meeting with more questions than answers. As I headed in to lead the Bible study I found it difficult to focus. Hopefully things will improve.

When I arrived back at Indian Creek, after Bible study, I was confronted with the malfunctioning dishwasher, that I had hoped would get better on its own. No chance of that. After resetting the breaker and a few other things, it was still beeping and blinking. I just don't have the bandwidth for one more thing to deal with.

Today, my morning got started a little later than usual. I woke up not long after 5am with some things on my mind from the meeting I had yesterday at church. I kind of set those thoughts aside so I could practice my morning routine:

  • Start coffee maker
  • Take meds
  • Daily Readings
  • Light therapy
  • Check laundry status
  • Free time

I managed to work my way through the list with the exception of the following two:

  • Practice violin
  • Run on treadmill

I just ran out of time. Oh, and I had also spent some time looking for the owner's manual for the dishwasher. I eventually found it and upon reading the trouble shooting page, I was still at square one. I went upstairs and tried a couple more things, but to no avail. I continued with the morning and tucked the manual with the model and serial number in my work bag. On the way out of the driveway I noticed the pipe that I had unstopped which feeds the pond was not flowing again. No time to deal with that now as it requires mucking through the creek.

While on my morning commute the meeting from yesterday entered my thoughts again...

As an LPC I did my best to process it all. I ended up calling my wife and this helped.

After getting some work done, I called the manufacturer of the dishwasher on my afternoon break. The representative was so nice and helpful. Without me being near the dishwasher she could only help me so much. I have a couple videos to watch when I get home. If it still persists I will have to call them back. The good thing is that the dishwasher is still under warranty.

For now, the issue is unresolved, much like the situation with the Deacon at church...

Hoping for a quiet night at home.

Maybe I'll put my muck boots on and get the pipe to the pond flowing again. That's something I can resolve...

Some things take time. Some conversations need prayer. But sometimes it's good for the soul to fix the thing that's actually fixable.

"Still Here: Picking This Back Up After Two Years"

Wow! Has it really been that long...

Today I felt like breaking my silence and to hopefully get back to updating my blog. Life is Good. I am no longer at Blue Ridge Medical Center. June 2nd of 2025 I returned to Region Ten full time as the Director at the Mohr Center in Charlottesville. I also pastor at Central Baptist Church in Lowesville. I have been there since October 2009.

Lately at Indian Creek I have been trying to keep the pipe flowing that feeds the farm pond on our lane. The cows like to get in the creek this time of year and they end up stomping around breaking the little dam I have made with mud and rocks! I hope to block this area off with branches etc. to discourage them from getting in that part of the creek. We'll see how it goes.

Things at the church are going well. There have been various epochs over the years of my pastoring at Central Baptist Church and I feel I am entering one of those now, a specific change, putting the church more firmly on a Biblical foundation with expository preaching. I'm excited about this.

In my personal life as a husband, father, grandfather... my wife and I now have eight grandkids! Seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
